I am a student, and last night when I heard the news that oil price has dropped in 17 years by $6 barrel, I wondered is that something to really jubilate about.

So I started figuring out how much oil does I consume?

I shaved my head last month, so I don’t need any hair oil. I travel through metro as I don’t own any private vehicle. I do eat food which may contain 5-6 tablespoon oil. Then it’s electricity in my house produced by oil. My computer, my television and light in the house are all indirectly depended on oil.

Now moving on to some serious facts, oil not only provides us quality of moving freely but  millions of products including plastics, life-saving medications, clothing, cosmetics, and many other items we may use daily are made of oil. Our transportation requires immense amount of oil, as vehicles on road are increasing per day. Adding new airports in developing countries also expanding jet fuel demand. As population is increasing at a tremendous rate, especially in developing nations, oil need is going too bound in leaps.

How much oil does India needs?

Western countries boldly blaming India for the cause of oil price rise. But India consumes way less than what developed country are consuming according to CIA fact book. Although Asia-pacific consumes 30% of total oil consumption, India owes only 10% of it. Hence there is no way India can be charged.

And ya it’s the time India is developing, don’t we need more nutrients when we are growing. Think about it.

Alternate strategies

Auto manufacturers are developing cars to run on alternate fuels such as electricity, hydrogen and ethanol. However, the electric batteries need to be charged and the fuel to generate the electricity could be oil or gas. Hence oil is really important part of our life. Whatever alternate strategies we do develop like generating electricity through moon, oil would be main fuel of use in coming two to three decades.

What we do to save oil?

First of all shave your head.

Well start using public transport more often instead of private vehicle; pressurize the government for improving public transport facilities. This is the best we can do. I was serious about shaving the head
